About

Tony Thomas Three is Memphis soul-jazz reimagined — a gritty, groove-heavy supergroup led by renowned organist Tony Thomas, whose bold, expressive playing has been a fixture of the Memphis scene, with credits including U2 and Joe Walsh. Joining Tony is legendary guitarist Charlton Johnson, a master of jazz, blues, and swing whose storied career includes performances with The Count Basie Orchestra, Dizzy Gillespie, and Ella Fitzgerald. Johnson’s playing brings fire and finesse to every phrase. On drums is the dynamic Ken Coomer, best known as the longtime drummer of Uncle Tupelo and founding member of alt-country icons Wilco. Coomer brings a driving, intuitive feel that bridges rock grit with jazz finesse, anchoring the trio’s sound with texture and momentum.

Special guest Kirk Whalum, the Grammy Award-winning saxophonist celebrated for his soaring solo on Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” lends his unmistakable tone and phrasing to the mix, adding warmth, depth, and spiritual fire to the album’s closing track “Falling Upward”.

Recorded live to analog tape at Memphis' Southern Grooves by 4x Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Matt Ross-Spang (John Prine, Al Green, Margo Price), the trio’s debut album, “Get With This!”, is a raw, richly textured celebration of jazz, soul, and the unmistakable Memphis groove.

Blending reimagined classics and vibrant original compositions, Tony Thomas Three honors the city’s musical legacy while boldly carving out their own sonic space. Limited to just 300 deluxe LPs (with companion CD), this release is a true collector’s gem — both a testament to analog artistry and a love letter to Memphis soul.
